PHILADELPHIA, April 2, 2025 – Annals of Internal Medicine and the American College of Physicians (ACP) have honored Maniraj Neupane, M.D., Ph.D. and Mohammadreza Naderian, M.D. MPH with Early Career Investigator Awards.
Annals’ Early Career Investigator Awards are presented annually to early career physicians. Annals and ACP award the most outstanding article by a first author who is in an internal medicine residency program or a general medicine or internal medicine subspecialty fellowship program. An award is also given for the most outstanding article with a first author who is within three years of completing his or her training in internal medicine or one of its subspecialties.
Maniraj Neupane, M.D., Ph.D., is being recognized for the article, Association Between Hospital Type and Resilience During COVID-19 Caseload Stress, which appeared in the September 2024 issue of the journal. Dr. Neupane completed his Pulmonary Diseases fellowship from the University of Pittsburgh and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health. He is interested in health services research and leverages large databases to understand hospital overcrowding and its effects on patient outcomes with the goal to improve critical care delivery during routine times and crisis situations."
Mohammadreza Naderian, M.D. MPH, is being recognized for the article, Development and Evaluation of a Comprehensive Prediction Model for Incident Coronary Heart Disease Using Genetic, Social, and Lifestyle Psychological Factors, which appeared in the December 2024 issue of the journal. Dr. Naderian is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic, MN. His research focuses on developing risk prediction models for cardiovascular disease and assessing the incremental value of genetic, socio-environmental, and lifestyle factors in predicting cardiovascular risk. He completed his medical degree and Master of Public Health at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, and is excited to join Baylor College of Medicine in the coming months to begin his residency in Internal Medicine.
Winners are selected based on the article’s novelty, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, and potential to influence practice, policy or future research. Judges include Annals’ editors and representatives from Annals’ Editorial Board and the American College of Physicians’ Publication Committee.
