Overweight and obesity reduce life expectancy and increase the likelihood of weight-related comorbid conditions, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and cancer. Among adults globally, 59% have overweight or obesity. Among U.S. adults, more than 34% are estimated to have overweight and another 34% are estimated to have obesity, based on self-reported height and weight. The advent of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), including multireceptor agonists, has renewed attention on drugs to treat obesity.
