High Value Care Cases

High Value Care Cases 4: Care Setting and Cost is a case-based interactive learning activity that examines how care setting influences the cost, quality, and value of care. Using clinical scenarios focused on admission decisions and hospital discharge, the module shows how site-of-care choices can affect charges, patient out-of-pocket costs, treatment adherence, and outcomes. You will compare the relative charges of outpatient care, observation, direct hospitalization, and emergency department admission, while also considering the nonfinancial factors that shape appropriate care decisions.

High Value Care Cases

The four-part High Value Care Cases series from ACP contains a collection of short, interactive cases and offers resources and guidance to help you incorporate high value care principles into your practice. The first learning activity uses clinical scenarios to demonstrate practical ways to eliminate health care waste and reduce low-value care. Through cases focused on appropriate testing and appropriate imaging, you will examine how to weigh benefits, harms, and costs to make better decisions for patients.
