Notes from the Governor

Hello Tennessee ACP Members,

I'm Dan Ely, and I'm honored and excited to serve as the new Governor of Tennessee ACP. Representing our chapter at the national level is a privilege, and I'm deeply committed to the mission of ACP and the positive impact it has on internal medicine physicians and the patients we serve. I am excited about the opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and make a meaningful difference in healthcare together, and TNACP is a vibrant mechanism for doing this!

I hope you share this passion and join us in supporting TNACP's efforts in the coming years.

Warmest regards,

Dan Ely, MD, FACP
Governor, American College of Physicians, Tennessee Chapter

ACP IM Meeting in New Orleans

In April, I had the pleasure of attending the ACP Internal Medicine Meeting in New Orleans, where I connected with many of you. During Convocation, I was proud to celebrate our FACPs, award recipients, and our newest Master, Dr. William C. Cushman, at the ceremony. If you haven't yet pursued Fellowship, I encourage you to consider applying. You can find more information about becoming an ACP Fellow and the Fellowship application here.

A number of TNACP members presented at the ACP national meeting, including Dr. Mukta Panda, who worked in IMG Mentorship as well as co-chaired the Global Forum. Our team from ETSU represented our state's training programs well in the Doctor's Dilemma, coming up just short in a tense and exciting heartbreaker!

The national meeting showcased the very best in internal medicine's scientific advancements. I hope you'll plan to join us for Internal Medicine Meeting 2026 in San Diego, California, April 16–18, 2026.

Leadership Day

In April, a delegation of students, residents, and internal medicine physicians from across the state met in Washington, DC for ACP's Leadership Day. Led by Dr. Michelle Allmon and Dr. Kevin Smith, co-chairs of our Health and Public Policy Committee, we met with Congressional staff and legislators to advocate for the needs of physicians and the patients we care for. Our efforts focused on three areas:

  1. The Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act.
  2. Protecting Medicaid coverage for the nation's vulnerable and disabled.
  3. Asking Congress to protect and invest in public health initiatives, research, and the healthcare workforce.

For a more detailed overview of the Health & Public Policy Committee's activities, please take a moment to read the latest Committee Update.

Leadership day is an amazing way to learn about and be involved with the legislative process. If you are interested in participating in future advocacy efforts such as Leadership Day, please let me know. Enrolling in the Advocates for Internal Medicine network (AIMn) is a great way to start. Joining AIMn is easy and free, and a way for Tennessee ACP to strengthen its advocacy efforts. Members will receive legislative updates on key policy issues. If you have a special relationship with an elected official, please let us know. Personal relationships are among the most helpful ways to advance our interests. Please visit Advocates for Internal Medicine Network (AIMn) to learn more.
