Welcome to the ACP West Virginia Chapter website! This site has been developed to keep internists in West Virginia up-to-date on the developments and activities in our Chapter.
ACP is the nation's largest medical specialty organization. Membership comprises more than 160,000 internal medicine physicians, medical students, and allied health professionals. Our West Virginia chapter has a growing membership of 888. We are your link to the larger organization, your grassroots advocacy partner, and your local supplier of educational, professional, and social programs. Our goal is to be your local professional home.
I am in the first month of being governor after a year of several educational meetings as the governor-elect. Although I have many years involved in ACP chapters, I did not appreciate the effort required by so many people in the WV Chapter and in the national office. Governor Laura Davisson and the executive director Sheri Campbell have done a great job elevating the chapter during their tenure. I have learned a lot about how the ACP advocates for patients and the members for everything from easier documentation to supporting public health measures. It is easy to see the value of membership dues.
As Governor, I’m responsible for representing our Chapter to the national organization; encouraging internal medicine physicians in our state to become members; helping members advance to Fellowship; recognizing members for their achievements; soliciting input and action on national and local political issues affecting internal medicine, and then addressing state legislature to speak for our members and their patients; hosting local scientific meetings and CME events; and encouraging Medical Student Members and Resident/Fellow Members to participate in local and national College activities. We offer valuable networking, professional development, advocacy, and educational activities to enhance your member experience.
Keep an eye on your inbox for our chapter newsletters, which will also be posted on this site. Opportunities for engagement with your local colleagues and our chapter are available. You can also find contact information for our chapter, and we welcome any suggestions you might have for our website and our chapter at large. We need your help to make us better physicians and improve the quality of the professional life of internists.
The WV Chapter meeting will be at the Stonewall Resort near Roanoke, WV from November 9-11—save the date. William Fox, MD of Charlottesville, VA, is the rising Chair of the ACP; he will present a national perspective and participate in some of our activities. Bethany Pellegrino, MD and Ronald Pellegrino, MD will reprise their very popular Saturday morning MOC session. The Planning Committee, led by Stephen Roy, MD in Huntington, is filing out the remainder of the agenda along with Thieves Market and Jeopardy competition directed by Preston Seaberg, MD in Charleston. Your suggestions are most welcome.
I hope you’ll visit this site frequently and join us at one of our upcoming programs.
Sincerely,
Shawn Chillag, MD, FACP
