Physician Coaching by Professionally Trained Peers for Burnout and Well-Being

JAMA Network Open: S.B. Kiser, MD, MPH; J.D. Sterns, MD, MPH; P.Y. Lai, MS; Nora K. Horick, MS; K. Palamara, MD

In this randomized clinical trial of 138 physicians, participants who received 3 months of coaching by professionally trained physician peers had a statistically significant reduction in interpersonal disengagement and burnout, with improvement in professional fulfillment and work engagement. These findings show that physician peer coaching is an effective strategy for reducing burnout and improving well-being.
