ACP Well-being Champions: Promoting Well-being Through Awareness, Advocacy, and Action

“Paying attention in new ways is a very healthy and potentially healing thing to do, although, as you will come to see, it isn't really about doing at all, or about getting somewhere else. It is much more about being-about allowing yourself to be as you already are.”
—Jon Kabat-Zinn, Full Catastrophe Living
When there is a lot going on around us it can be easy to get overwhelmed and caught up in the storm. While this might be a difficult time for public health, we are here to remind you of the importance of paying careful attention to the immediate world around you and recognizing the things you can control and the direct actions you can take to influence the well-being of yourself and others. Start simple and ask yourself how you can act on an individual level to make an impact.
Attentiveness to self-care and your professional and personal needs is important. Many of us put ourselves last on the list of people to care for, as if it were selfish or inappropriate to focus on our own needs. It is important to remember that taking care of ourselves empowers us to best take care of others—in other words, we can best support others when we first take care of ourselves! Ask for the supports you need (family, friends, community, work) and set reasonable expectations for yourself.
ACP recognizes the impact of recent policy and governmental changes on well-being and continues to advocate for the protection of science and public health. The need to protect evidence-based science is paramount, and ACP continues to provide materials to support its members, such as the recently published toolkit Protecting Access to Vaccines to help efforts state to state and the new Long Covid Information Hub.
